Cotswold Challenge reports

Location Horton Village (North of Chipping Sodbury)

Following last year’s successful inaugural event 63 hardy runners took up the challenge this year to compete five, ten or 15 miles over this very scenic and tough course incorporating two ancient forts on the Cotswold escarpment..

The multi terrain course started on the muscle straining Horton Hill and onto the Cotswold Way for the undulations and three exhausting hills. At four miles Jaroslaw Motyka (Hogweed Trotters) was fifty yards in front of Andy Dunn of Marlborough Runners and Alex Copping (Team Bath) with Chris Stockdale (Southville RC) just behind.

As Andy and Alex battled out the end of the five miles they were amazed to see Jaroslaw disappearing up the hill starting his second lap to eventually win the 15 miles whilst Chris completed two laps to become the 10 mile Champion.

In the Ladies positions Aimee Lawrence Bitton RR won the 5 mile ladies. Niki Morgan Chepstow took the 10 and Liz Jones Hogweed Trotters the 15.

With a substantial prize list of over £600 plus place medals with a free cake and drink to all finishers, all competitors returned home tired but very happy.

This was a brand new race for the Hogweed’s! Scenic, sadistic, scintillating and self-satisfying. It included three demanding hills per lap. Runner’s saw Cotswold escarpement as never before.

There were three races to chose from – 5 miles (1 lap), 10 miles (2 laps) or 15 Miles (3 laps).
