Hogweed Hilly Half Marathon 2013

Hilly Half 2013

We had a great race at our eighth Hogweed Hilly Half Marathon. Disappointed that we were 100 entries down on last year but I’ll be working on that for the 2013 event. Will probably bring the race forward to early March, go head to head with Bath perhaps, avoid Mothering Sunday and not forgetting the change of clocks!

However the warm weather and tough course didn’t distract from some excellent performances and a satisfying day for our club. Daniel Summers (Westbury Harriers) won the race in 1.21.17, Emma D’Alton (Westbury Harriers) finished second in a ladies course record – by 1 minute 50 secs – (and £50) in 1.22.32. Jaroslaw Motyka (Hogweed Trotters) was third 1.23.16, Simon Byrne (Swindon Harriers) 4th in 1.23.49.

Age category winners were as follows:

1st MV 40. Colin Pemble (GWR), 1st MV 50 John Curtis (HT), 1st MV 60 Jon Bateman (RRC), 1st MV70 Michael Coupe (Nailsea) 1.53.47!!!! Second Lady Pat Curtis (HT) in 1.36.12, 3rd Lady Geri Taylor (Unattached), 4th Lady Helen Duffield (Chepstow Harriers) 1st LV 35 Laura Buet (HT), 1st LV45 Meryl Fogg (Bitton RR), 1st LV 55 Janet Watson (Falmouth RR).

There were 185 entries with 162 finishing the race. Full results can be displayed at: Provisional Results 2012

Yet again our famous Hilly Half got fantastic ratings on Runners World. 100% of runners said that they would do it again, with an overall rating of 98%.

Here is some feedback from 2012

“Stunning race, small and friendly club, great test or just a stunning run, good t-shirt, nice medal, spot prizes, tea, coffee, home made munchies, friendly marshalls, adequate water supplies, stations well manned. Couldn’t ask for a nicer Sunday morning stroll.” Tinselcelt

Thanks to all those great, enthusiastic, encouraging marshals. Thanks for that really great scenic course. Thanks for arranging that great weather. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make it any easier for me to get around …. But I will keep coming back as long as your marshals don’t mind staying out waiting for me to finish! Thanks to all those Hogweeders for yet another great Half. That’s the way all Half’s should be.” John Grimsey

“This was my second running of the HHH and it didn’t disappoint! Obviously it’s a big challenge and those hills are extraordinary… not in a nice way 😉 … but the scenery is glorious, the support is second to none and the marshals are brilliant. The organisers should be very very proud – a fantastic job done once again. I will definitely be back again next year; this race is to be an annual date in my diary. Faultless. I would recommend to anyone who wants a challenge!” Geri Taylor
